Casting reports, set leaks and "sources say" claims about the Elden Ring movie tend to spread fast and lose their caveats along the way. This page exists so there's always one place to check what's actually been confirmed, what's still just a report or a leak, and what's since been confirmed after starting life as a rumour. Rumours that turned out to be true
Several of the film's now-official cast members were originally reported before A24 confirmed anything:
Kit Connor was reported cast in May 2025 (Deadline) - confirmed April 20, 2026.
Ben Whishaw was reported "allegedly" cast in July 2025 (via Kinocheck) - confirmed April 20, 2026.
Cailee Spaeny was reported "in talks" in July 2025 (The InSneider) - confirmed as part of the cast on April 20, 2026, though which character she's playing has still never been officially revealed.
Nick Offerman was reported joining in April 2026 (World of Reel) - confirmed less than two weeks later in the official cast reveal.
Even now the cast is official, no character-to-actor assignments have ever been confirmed. Any theory about who's playing Marika, Ranni, or anyone else is fan speculation - see our Movie Theories & Predictions board for the community's best guesses.
Still unconfirmed
How long filming actually ran. A since-deleted Instagram post from crew member Sean Schofield described "six solid months" of filming wrapping in late July 2026. A day later, trade outlet World of Reel gave a different figure - roughly four months - and reported over a year of post-production still ahead. Neither figure has been confirmed by A24, and the two reports don't fully reconcile. What is confirmed: the Iceland leg of the shoot specifically wrapped successfully on August 21, 2026, after 14 days across six locations.
The April 2026 set leak. Fan-shot clips and photos from the Greenwich Naval College set showed signage referencing Leyndell, prop crates labelled for Stormveil, a Marika-esque costume, and a crowded market/execution scene some fans read as a possible pre-Shattering flashback. None of it has been confirmed or released by the studio - treat it as an unconfirmed leak, not a first look.
An even earlier "Church of Marika" set-build clip (April 3, 2026) showing a fenced-off rural set - also never confirmed as genuinely connected to the production.
What's actually confirmed (the short version)
Director/writer: Alex Garland. Studio: A24. Release date: March 3, 2028 (US), shot for IMAX. Budget: reportedly over $100 million. Filming: UK (Scotland, North Wales) from April 2026, plus Iceland, wrapping there successfully on August 21. Full cast: Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Emma Laird, Peter Serafinowicz and Jonathan Pryce - no characters attached to any of them yet.
Nothing's been debunked yet
