Report: Iceland Shoot Wraps Successfully After 14 Days at Six Locations

Icelandic press (via mbl.is) reported that the film's Iceland leg had wrapped successfully earlier in the month, after 14 shooting days across six locations - including Hnausapollar, Háifoss and the Vatnajökull National Park area near Ófærufoss - with around 150 crew at peak, dozens of local extras, and both Ben Whishaw and Kit Connor on site. It's the most recent confirmed production news as of this writing.

Trade Report: Roughly Four-Month Shoot, Over a Year of Post-Production Ahead

A day after the leaked wrap post, World of Reel offered its own account of the production, describing a roughly four-month shoot - a different figure to the "six solid months" the since-deleted crew post described, and one we haven't been able to fully reconcile - and reported that more than a year of visual-effects and post-production work still lies ahead before the confirmed March 3, 2028 release.

Filming Reportedly Wraps After Roughly Six Months

Production on the film reportedly wrapped in late July 2026, roughly six months after filming began. This has not been officially announced by A24 - the only source is a (since-deleted, account-made-private) Instagram post from crew member Sean Schofield, a prop maker on the production, who described it as the "dream job to end all dream jobs" and "6 solid months of blood, sweat and tears making the coolest stuff ever." It's a credible crew account rather than a confirmed studio statement, so it's filed here as a rumour, not a confirmed fact, until A24 makes it official. No trailer, poster or additional footage has been released yet - the film remains on track for its March 3, 2028 release.

Peter Serafinowicz Explains the Chance Meeting That Got Him Cast

On Russell Howard's Five Brilliant Things podcast, Peter Serafinowicz - a familiar voice to Soulsborne fans from his FromSoftware voice work, including Mild-Mannered Pate in Dark Souls II - explained how he ended up in the film: he met Alex Garland by chance, who already recognised his voice work, and left his contact details before later being cast. His actual role in the film remains unrevealed.

On the Ground in North Wales: Filming Spotted at Dinorwic Quarry and Two Castles

Local paper the Daily Post / North Wales Live reported eyewitness filming activity "in stifling heat" at Dinorwic Quarry, Dolbadarn Castle and Conwy Castle - all dramatic, ruin-and-stone locations that line up neatly with the Lands Between's own look. It's some of the most concrete, verifiable filming-location reporting to come out of the whole shoot.

Set Photos and Video Leak Online

Unofficial, leaked photos and video reportedly from the set began circulating online over the third and fourth weeks of April 2026, sourced mainly to fan-shot clips (originally posted to TikTok and YouTube) filmed around the Greenwich Naval College set. Reported sightings include location signage referencing Leyndell, prop crates labelled for Stormveil, a statue resembling the in-game depiction of Marika, and gallows-like set pieces some fans connected to the Dung Eater. A separate clip said to show a crowded market/town scene and an elaborate public-execution scene (extras in period dress, ornate hats, food being thrown) drew particular attention for depicting a busier, more populated Lands Between than the game itself shows - several outlets speculated this could be a pre-Shattering flashback, though that reading is pure fan speculation, not anything sourced from the production. A costume reportedly resembling Queen Marika (a blue dress with long gold braids and gold shoes) was also described. None of this has been officially confirmed or released by the studio, Bandai Namco or the cast - treat all of it as an unconfirmed leak, not an official reveal, until A24 says otherwise.

Ahead of the main UK shoot even wrapping, Icelandic outlet mbl.is reported that part of the production would film in Iceland later that summer. Principal Photography Begins in the UK

Filming began in the UK in mid-April 2026, with reported locations across Scotland and North Wales, including Dinorwic Quarry, Dolbadarn Castle and Conwy Castle - all locations well suited to the game's ruined-castle, mountain-and-quarry aesthetic. Substantial studio-built sets were also constructed at Greenwich Naval College in South London. Additional filming in Iceland was planned for summer 2026. The shoot was reported to run roughly 100 days, with a budget described as "well over $100 million."

Leaked Footage Shows Possible "Church of Marika" Set Build

Weeks before principal photography was officially confirmed to have started, a fan posted footage of a fenced-off rural set in the English countryside featuring a statue resembling Queen Marika, crucifixion-style stakes, barrels and carts. Neither A24 nor Bandai Namco confirmed the footage was genuinely from the production, so treat this as an early, unverified leak rather than an official first look.

The New Yorker: Garland Wrote an Unsolicited Script and Flew to Japan to Pitch Miyazaki

A New Yorker profile of Alex Garland revealed just how hard he pushed to land this job: he reportedly approached A24 himself, then wrote a 160-page script plus 40 pages of visual reference material entirely on spec - before anyone had agreed to anything - and personally flew to Japan to pitch Hidetaka Miyazaki in person, who ultimately signed off on the project. It's a rare, detailed look at how an adaptation this closely guarded actually got made.

Report: Cailee Spaeny in Talks to Join

The InSneider reported that Cailee Spaeny - who worked with Alex Garland on Civil War - was in talks to join the Elden Ring cast, reuniting the pair. The report didn't specify a role, though it didn't stop fans from immediately speculating she might be playing Queen Marika - speculation only, since no character names have ever been officially released.

Alex Garland Reveals He's on His Seventh Elden Ring Playthrough

Promoting an unrelated film, director Alex Garland told IGN he was already deep into the game he'd been hired to adapt - "I'm now on my seventh playthrough of that game" - and named Malenia, Blade of Miquella as the boss still giving him trouble: "I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again." A small detail, but a reassuring one for fans wondering whether the director actually plays the source material.

Report: Kit Connor Cast to Star

Less than a month after the film was confirmed, Deadline reported that Kit Connor - who had already worked with Alex Garland on the film Warfare - had been cast to lead the Elden Ring film. At this stage it was a trade report citing sources, not an official studio announcement; A24 wouldn't officially confirm the full cast, Connor included, for almost another year.

George R.R. Martin Coyly "Teases" Movie and TV Rumours

Days after Miyazaki's comments, Elden Ring co-creator George R.R. Martin posted on his own blog about "those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING" - and then declined to confirm or deny anything: "I have nothing to say... I know nothing... what rumor?" It wasn't a confirmation of anything specific, but it was the first sign that adaptation talk was already circulating behind the scenes, nearly a year before A24 was announced.

Miyazaki: "I Don't See Any Reason to Deny" a Movie Adaptation

Long before A24 got involved, FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked directly whether an Elden Ring movie could ever happen. Speaking to The Guardian, he said he wouldn't rule it out - "I don't see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example... there's interest, for sure" - while cautioning that FromSoftware itself doesn't have the film-making skills to do it alone and would need "a very strong partner." It's the earliest on-record hint that a film was even being discussed, nearly a year before A24 was confirmed.
